Welcome to our Meijer Family Spotlight Series, where we’ll feature just a few of the 2,300 families we’re providing with beds and furniture each year.
Each family who is featured will receive a $250 Meijer gift card… and we thank Meijer for their generous support of the Furniture Bank and the families we serve!
Yolanda came to the Furniture Bank after experiencing several difficulties in her life. She’d fled from an abusive relationship and lost her job. She also found herself with unexpected medical bills after her daughter was in a serious car accident.
Yolanda had worked in the non-profit sector for many years before losing her job and getting away from domestic violence meant leaving all her furniture behind. She and her two daughters needed furniture to fill their empty home.
After calling United Way’s 2-1-1 referral service, Yolanda was connected to the Furniture Bank where she found the hope that she and her daughters so desperately needed.

She did not have a bed to sleep in, nor a sofa, dining table, chairs, or other basics. Her problems seemed more daunting because she couldn’t get the rest an adequately furnished home provides.
“I was humbled to need this kind of personal support and was so thankful to get connected to the Furniture Bank” says Yolanda.
The Furniture Bank provided Yolanda and her family with the furniture they needed to get back on their feet. Wanda now has another job and is looking to go back to school to study project management.
