Channel 4 Highlights Michigan’s Largest Housewarming Party Supporting Families in Need

Channel 4 recently featured an inspiring community effort aimed at helping Metro Detroit families turn empty houses into homes. Michigan’s Largest Housewarming Party is bringing together local businesses and nonprofits to provide essential furniture and household items to families experiencing hardship.
Led by Gorman’s Home Furnishings and Interior Design, the campaign offers free, pre-scheduled pickup of gently used furniture across Metro Detroit through February 24. Rather than navigating the hassle of selling or transporting large items, donors can schedule a pickup directly through Gorman’s showrooms in Novi, Southfield, or Troy, making it easier than ever to give back.
Donated furniture and household essentials are distributed to three nonprofit partners, including Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit, North America’s oldest furniture bank. The organization helps families transition out of homelessness and housing instability by providing beds, sofas, tables, and other critical items that restore dignity and comfort.
In addition to furniture, the campaign accepts new, unused household essentials such as towels, kitchen tools, cookware, and small appliances. These items support families served by Habitat Oakland ReStore and United Community Family Services, which assists refugee families arriving in Michigan with little more than hope for a fresh start.
Channel 4’s coverage showcases how simple acts — donating a couch, a table, or everyday household items — can have a powerful impact. Together, local businesses, nonprofits, and community members are proving that when furniture is given a second life, families gain stability, comfort, and a place to truly call home.
